Fiducia Supplicans and its consequence: Invalid Mass
Lessons from church history
St. Maximus the Confessor and Pope St. Martin defended orthodox doctrine against the heresies of monotheletism. Emperor Constans sent a decree, the so-called Typos, drawn up by the heretical Patriarch Paul II, to Pope St. Martin. Pope Martin replied: “I reject the heretical doctrine… I will not deviate from the Gospel or the Apostolic teaching or the Tradition of the Church Fathers even at the cost of death.”
He convened a local council in Rome on the advice of St. Maximus, where heresy was condemned. Pope St. Martin was deported, imprisoned and sentenced to death. Though the sentence was changed, he died as a result of prison hardships in 655.
Saint Maximus was urged to embrace the new doctrine. He replied: “No, because the leaders of this Church, by throwing away the conclusions of the four general councils, have excluded themselves from the Church. Thus they lost their authority and their priesthood, as was declared at the Council of Rome. Therefore I ask, what sacraments can they administer? Or what spirit descends upon those whom they ordain?”
The heretical declaration Fiducia Supplicans essentially abrogates the Decalogue and the Creed. It contradicts not only the conclusions of the four General Councils, but also the Gospel and the whole of Tradition. As a result, it is also true that those who accept this heretical doctrine have already excluded themselves from the Church. What is the solution today? At least a small group of cardinals or orthodox bishops – the successors of the apostles – must clearly declare Pope Francis to be a public heretic who excommunicated himself from the Church. Anyone who wants to be saved must separate from his heresies and the spirit of heresy, and regard him as a public heretic.
Saint Maximus said: “I know from Scripture that the Holy Spirit casts anathema even on angels if they preach another gospel.” (Gal 1:8) To separate from those who have already separated from Christ is by no means a schism.
Bishops and priests who are in communion with the heretical Fiducia Supplicans administer the holy sacraments invalidly.
The liturgy makes present the death of Christ. Christ’s death overcomes sin. Fiducia Supplicans, on the other hand, blesses sin. A bishop or priest who blesses the sin of sodomy is an apostate. With this spirit of the Antichrist, he can no longer celebrate the liturgy validly. The question asked by Saint Maximus, followed by his answer, applies to the current situation: “What sacraments can now be administered by those who approve of blessing sodomy? They have excluded themselves from the Church. Thus they lost their authority and their priesthood.”
Catholics are asking whether a prelate who is a manifest heretic – that is, one who has accepted the heretical declaration Fiducia Supplicans – validly administers the sacraments. By abusing his apostolic authority, such a prelate is transforming his diocese into a new anti-church with new paradigms and a sodomite anti-gospel. According to Gal 1:8-9, this manifest heretic has excommunicated himself from the Church. He is not a member of the Church and, through his apostasy, has exchanged the Spirit of Christ for the spirit of the Antichrist. With this spirit, consecration in the Holy Mass does not take place.
Similarly, even if he were to confer diaconate or priestly ordination, it would not take place. This is not a matter of committing a grave sin on a single occasion, but of persisting obstinately on the path of apostasy – that is, of falling away from the Church – not merely externally, but also internally. It is a different matter if a priest is in a state of grave sin but not in apostasy. Such a bishop or priest celebrates the liturgy validly, even though, as Scripture says, he “eats and drinks judgment upon himself” (cf. 1Cor 11:29).
Regarding the sacraments, the fundamental principle is that they have no effect without the Holy Spirit.
This is an extraordinary situation. On December 18, 2023, the pseudo-pope Bergoglio issued the doctrinal declaration Fiducia Supplicans, in which he approves the heinous sin of sodomy and introduces a blessing for it. This is a public rebellion against God. God’s commandments are being set aside, and anyone who accepts the sodomite anti-gospel excommunicates himself from the Church of Christ (see Gal 1:8-9).
The question keeps coming up: Was Pope Francis a manifest heretic, or was he not? All the evidence points to the fact that he was.
